Full Search

What is a Full Search?

When conducting your family research you may come to a dead-end. You struggle trying to locate that one missing piece of information that will help you move forward. A Full Search request gives Godfrey Library patrons access to research help. You do not need to have a subscription to the Godfrey Scholar Program to submit a request. You do not even need to be present at the library.

The link below provides you with a convenient form to ask your question of our researchers. Please give as much information as possible to enable us to be reasonably sure the individual we locate is your family member. Our brilliant volunteer & staff researchers have decades of experience in genealogy and historical research. When a request form is received, by mail, email or fax, they will use all available resources both in-house and online to try to find the answer to your genealogy question.

An example of the resources included in (but not limited to) the Full Search are: The American Genealogical Biographical Index (AGBI-and every name index to over 800 sources on our shelves and the Boston Transcript); county & local histories, biographies, published genealogies, Revolutionary War Pension Abstracts, and cemetery records (as applicable).

Each Full Search request is for one individual, however, should information for an additional relative appear on the same page, that information is included at no extra charge. For a $30.00 fee submitted names are searched and photocopies are made of the pages on which they appear. Please keep in mind that the majority of the information we have at the library is in the United States and pre-1930. If you are looking for a later time period or international information our resources are more limited. Every effort is made to provide the data you request, however, there are times when despite everyone's best efforts no information is available. In those cases, the fee still stands and no refunds are given.

To mail in your request, please send your check to Godfrey Memorial Library, 134 Newfield Street, Middletown, CT 06457. Please fax forms to 860-347-9874. Email your request to library@godfrey.org. Please put “Full Search Request ” in the subject line and include answers to the questions found on the form at the link. Be sure to include payment information. Allow 3-4 weeks response time.
